Osprey Arrow LLC is a consulting firm based in Tampa, Florida, that helps organizations lead better, organize smarter, and manage risk with confidence. We work with leaders and teams to strengthen how their organizations are structured, how their people are developed, and how they prepare for what's ahead.
Our services include organizational design, leadership training, keynote speaking, risk mitigation, and general consulting, with physical security and vulnerability assessments as one part of a broader risk practice. Osprey Arrow was founded by Jim O'Brien, with 29 years of experience across the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Enterprise as the culmination of a lifetime of service and commitment to excellence. Jim brings the discipline, planning rigor, and mission focus of military service to every engagement, along with a commitment to honest assessments and straight answers. After deploying to over 42 countries and conducting missions ranging from permissive environments to combat, he understands the continuous cycle of intelligence – operations – logistics and how organizations apply all three.

As the African proverb says: “if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Osprey Arrow will bring our collective experiences, unique perspective, and unconventional approaches to solve your corporate problems so you can go far.
The name reflects what we value: the osprey's sharp vision from above, and the arrow's precision and purpose. We aim to see clearly, aim carefully, and deliver results that hit the target. It also reflects the two military Regiments that Jim belongs to. The arrow comes from the U.S. Army Special Forces and represents the Special Force’s Regimental lineage from the First Special Service Force and the Indian Scouts. The osprey comes from the Selous Scouts Regimental Association, whose emblem was an osprey and represents unconventional methods to solve collective problems together – Pamwe Chete. Visually, Osprey Arrow utilizes the Corinthian helmet, facing to the right with an upwards pointed arrow. The ancient Greek helmet symbolizes discipline, courage, and wisdom alongside the readied arrow – both facing to the right steadied for conflict and looking towards the future.

Founder, Osprey Arrow
Jim was commissioned a 2LT from the United States Military Academy in 1996 receiving a BA in History. His first assignment was to Germany where he deployed multiple times to the Balkans. In 2000, he attended the Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course in the hopes of becoming a Green Beret.
After the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2002, he was assigned to various Special Operation formations throughout the USSOCOM Enterprise to conduct force generation, operations, and oversight of the Force at the Theatre and National levels. He served in a variety of leadership roles and routinely interacted with multiple US and International Government agencies to coordinate National counter-terrorism efforts and mitigate strategic threats. Jim’s final duty assignment was to USSOCOM in 2020. There, he assumed the duties of the J3 Training and Education Division Chief, J3-International Division Chief, and the Deputy Director of Operations for the entirety of the 72,000-person strong USSOCOM Enterprise.
Since retiring from the U.S. Army, he served in a fiber optic construction management role and then joined a global security company providing risk management solutions for various corporations and families. Ultimately, he departed to pursue his passion: teaching, coaching, and mentoring others. Leadership development and training the next generation of commandos has been a constant thread and passion throughout his time in, and out of, uniform. Now he focuses on problem solving for others.
He has multiple combat and operational deployments to Europe, South America, the Middle East and south-west Asia as well as a few hundred airborne operations, all alongside our International Special Operation allies and partners. He has numerous U.S. decorations, such as the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Special Forces Tab and Ranger Tab among others. His foreign awards include the El Salvadoran Gold Medal of Freedom, British SAS wings, Selous Scouts airborne wings, a score of various foreign Freefall wings, honorary membership in the Selous Scouts Regimental Association, and many other official and unofficial honorifics. Jim is fluent in Spanish, has a basic understanding of French, and is familiar with many more languages from deploying around the world and working with our Country’s Allied and Partnered Special Operations Forces.
Jim was born into a military family as the oldest of six kids but spent most of his formative childhood in South Portland, Maine. There he skied, surfed, windsurfed, flyfished, hiked, biked, and grew up along the northeastern coast living a charmed life. He is married to his stunningly beautiful and talented wife who is out of his league, and they have three sons, a daughter, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. His two oldest sons serve our Nation in the military and Federal service while his 9-year old son is a budding commando and his daughter is his world. He stays young with a 1966 Mustang, an ever-growing honey-do list, and keeping physically active.
